God’s Wow Factor! by Pastor Fred Garnes

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”Psalm 19:1 ESV

The Psalmist got it right when he wrote and sang that the heavens declare the glory of God. Although the music score is not available and we don’t know the tune this Psalm was sung to, the imagery is perfect. Have you ever seen a sunset of the coast of Florida’s Key West, or watched a full moon on a velvet black night reflect its beams across on the Caribbean Sea like a fine crystal bowl bouncing the light back and forth? No camera or digital program can capture the awesome sunset in Florida’s Key West, the crystal clear starlit sky from South Africa’s Table Mountain, or the full moon from the Jamaican coast bouncing its beams off the calm evening Caribbean Sea.  Men and women of every tongue, color, size, and age will travel thousands of miles each year to see a great sight. These tourist travel from one continent to another to see  Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, and many other great things. They come to see and say “wow.” They come to experience   ” God’s WoW Factors”

God tells his story in extraordinary and colorful ways that become etched in the mind permanently. Just imagine hearing sermons like that declaring His glory.  These great sights   shout to us that the Creator is far Greater than what he created. We call heaven and the stars “God’s WoW Factors” because they give us a glimpse of the majesty and awesomeness of the God who spoke them into existence in their perfect order. Look at the heavens and see its vastness, your jaw drops, your spirit is humbled as you gawk at the sight of His majesty revealed in miniature.

Depending on whether you live in the city, the suburbs, or the country (often referred to as the wilderness or hinterlands by urban folk) the sky is a different canvas of colors  and patterns,  which  always seem to be dancing in harmony to an uncommon rhythm. This dance is so unique that it never looks the same and cannot be duplicated or captured in all its majesty by the best manmade equipment. These marvels, called eye candy by some, are the handiwork of an all loving, all gracious, all merciful and absolute holy and sovereign God.  I believe He created these heavens and their contents for our enjoyment and amazement, and to reflect His Glory and majesty and for all to see. God’s WoW Factors always point to Him. The stars also tell a story, His story. Although astrology has counterfeited the original story in the stars, God has written His message there among them. The patterns of the stars are not by chance but by design. Their message is there for all to see.

Hear the heavens make their declaration…Look, Listen and Live!
